Adopting a Marine, in memory of Cpl Nicholas Xiarhos

Hello SFM community! I wanted to share this with you. This was an email from a fan and adopter in my Adopt a Hero initiative. In conversation, this is a little story she shared with me and gave me permission to share with you:

I’ve always been interested in adopting a Marine, but honestly never took the time to research how. (I’m seriously embarrassed to say that.) My community is like many others across the nation, we’ve had servicemen and women give the ultimate sacrifice for us. In July 2009, our community received the news that Cpl Nicholas Xiarhos was killed in Garmsir. He was just 21 years old. I wear a memorial bracelet with his name imprinted on it every day to remind me of what he, and so many others, have given up for us. (According to my doctor, the bracelet likely saved my wrist from being broken when I slammed it in the tailgate of our SUV earlier this month. Made me feel as if Nick was still protecting others).
